Penny Back in London 12 - 16 March

I flew back to London this afternoon and, as I write, I am back in our London home. This is the first time I have written for the blog. I thought it was about high time! William is out from Harrow tomorrow for the weekend. I will be back in Feldkirch Monday afternoon.

Paul remains in ICU in Feldkirch and is currently stable.

I left the hospital with the clear understanding that I do not need to communicate with the medical team over the weekend unless there is a change in his condition or a decision needs to be taken. I have developed a very trusting relationship with the doctors on ICU. They have the measure of me, and I of them.

I continue to be hugely fortified and sustained by all the love, support and true acts of friendship and kindness that has and is being showed to Paul and me, and our two precious teenagers, Charlotte and Will. I am proud of the way both of them are conducting themselves and continuing on in their busy lives.

The friends and family who have been able to visit Paul in Feldkirch, and the many offers of others to come, has been heart warming. This week I truly believe that Paul was able to 'connect', for the first time, with the familiar voices and faces of Mike Palmer, Keith Falconer and Margie Ogilivy Stewart.

I am also truly blessed to have so many family members who are able to help me continue in the areas that Paul was so able in. Paul and I are also very fortunate to have an excellent and selfless team in Carl and Lisa, who are continuing the management of our home, The White House of Aros, Mull, which I know so many of you know.

I ask you all to follow my example of strength, courage and above all, patience. I thank you all, from the bottom of my heart, and on behalf of Will and Charlotte, for your continuing love and support.

Sending lots of good vibes from "down under" and of course lots of love. Keeping a close eye on the blog and was excited to read the last entry about Paul starting to respond. As a physio I know the recovery process can be a slow one but it sounds like he has the best of care and support. Love "cousin B"

  2. I have recently returned from a business trip and become aware of Paul’s accident and the incredible efforts that are being made to try and get him and his family through this unimaginable nightmare. My thoughts and prayers are with Paul, Penny, their children and family during this difficult time.

Like many people I know Paul through mutual business connections and have been fortunate to have spent many hours with him over the years trying to understand some obscure African mining or oil & gas deal. He is one of the most charming, honest and humorous people I know and has that wonderful characteristic of never taking himself too seriously or of letting the ups and downs of the business world ruin his enjoyment of life or in devoting time with his precious family. We can all learn a thing or two from his example!

I have asked my parish to include Paul and his family in the daily prays and would be grateful if you would add Our Lady of Good Counsel, in Vienna, Virginia to the blog. I thank you for helping to keep us all informed as to Paul’s progress and pray that God will watch over him and bring him back to his family and friends.

    Kind regards, Michael E. Humphries

  3. Dearest Penny,
I don't know if this will work as I'm not good at this gizmo stuff but Lucinda, Rick, Orlando, Ludo and Sasha Compton are thinking of all of you as you try to bring Paul back from his horrific state. We all pray for him - and for all of you. If love can help, Paul has plenty flowing towards him from his many, many friends....
    With our love, Rick

  10. Dear Penny,
Alex and I have been thinking of you since we heard of Paul's accident and we both send you all much love for the road to recovery ahead.
The Isle of Coll's only church doesn't have many services, but we'll make sure Paul is prayed for when they do!
    Lots of love
